Back in the USA - Drummond Island, MI
We made it! We're back in the USA! Enjoy this rockin rendition of the song by Chuck Berry:
Back in the USAWhat a trip it was. The weather was overcast, and there wasn't much traffic, so we actually crossed the border at 12:12 pm and entered the USA portion of the North Channel of Lake Huron. We docked at Drummond Island, and were told that we could not leave the boat until we were cleared by customs. Silly us, we thought there was a customs office at the marina. NO - you have to do everything on line. So being, the tech guru that I thought I was, we did everything on my phone.
Got the CPB (Customs and Border Protection) Roam app downloaded, then had to purchase a DTOPS decal for Cady Girl at the cost of $35.98. DTOPS is a permit to allow your vessel to cross the border and is good for one year - but we doubt we will ever cross the border in Cady Girl again!
Anyhow, when everything is submitted you get a notice that a border agent wants to have a video chat. We tried this unsuccessfully twice and were denied access to enter the USA. I was freaking out! Don was very calm!
We realized my cellular data and data roaming were turned off, ergo the video couldn't happen. DUH - so we fixed my phone, went back into the app and had a very short chat with the agent! I'm sure he thought I was a luddite!
Today we motored to the other side of Drummond Island and anchored in a beautiful cove near Fishers Island. The water is surprisingly clear and green here, more so than the North Channel in Canada.
We're glad to be HOME!
I may not post for awhile as we are having my sister Pat and brother-in-law John as guests for a few weeks! Happy Summer!
Hooray - we can come into the USA
