Oh, the Places we will go.....

On March 8, 2024, we started the Intracoastal Waterways (ICW). This has been a lifelong dream of Don's since he was raised in Maryland on the Chesapeake Bay; I, on the other hand, being from Oregon, didn't know what it was????  If you want to know more, check out the AGLCA | Great Loop Route. 

Anyhow, we departed Lamb's Yacht Center in Jacksonville Florida at 9:30 a.m. with my sister Pat and husband, John as our crew!  Lamb's Yacht Center is a great full-service marina run my Peggy Sue and her staff.   

At 5:00 pm we docked at Fernandina Beach on Amelia Island; not without "kissing the bottom" of the ICW because the tide was so low.

Loved Fernandina Beach, especially a great restaurant, "The Patio", where we sat at the bar, ate a delicious meal and talked to all the locals and 2 great bartenders.

On March 9th, we went to the beach and then to Fort Clinch, a great historical site on the island.  NOTE: Lyft rides are few and far between - so we had fun riding in back of a pickup truck until we could get a driver to pick us up.  Imagine 4 "Senior Citizens" in the back of a truck....

I'm sure you're wondering why it's taken us so long to post; besides having too much fun, I was a bit dubious about setting up a blog. Now that it's started, look forward to seeing more adventures.  I've got a month of sightseeing and adventures to catch you up on.

We're BACK on the WATER! Let's start by explaining how Cady Girl got from South Haven Michigan to today: Well, first of all, we bused, Uber'd, and then flew to French Polynesia for a wonderful, once in a lifetime experience with great friends! Cady Girl stayed in South Haven - watched over by some great Harbor Hosts! In October Don flew to Chicago and rented a car to get back to South Haven.  He then did a solo speed run from South Haven to Chicago via Lake Michigan!  He met his brother, Dave there and they cruised the Cal-Sag Waterway, an industrial river access around South Chicago. Per the Captain, this was a fascinating study of the on-going de-industrialization of the United States. From there, they hung a left to the Illinois River and Dave departed in Peoria , IL - home of Caterpillar! Dog Island to Steinhatchee to Cedar Key

There are good days and bad days in boating!  These last two days went from one extreme to the other. On Friday, we left Dog Island bright and early as we had a 78-mile trip across the Gulf!  Weather and seas did not cooperate with conditions worse than the day before. Wind was 20-25 with gusts up to 35; waves were up to 4-6 feet.  Needless to say, we wore our special watches. The good news was that it calmed down as we got closer to our destination. Steinhatchee and specifically the Sea Hag Marina was quite an experience.  It is the fisherman's hang out for that part of Florida, for sure. They even provide lounge chairs to watch others filet their catch. The staff at the marina was great and the store was amazing. We walked up to Kathi's Krab Shack for dinner. I had the flounder Po-Boy and Paula, our waitress offered Soft Shell Crabs on special.  Don asked if they were blue crab or snow crab, her response was "they're soft-shell crab."  Being the Maryland ...

Hallelujah - We Crossed our Wake! (St. Augustine to Jacksonville)

Way back when, in March 2024 we started the America Great loop from Lambs Marina in Jacksonville. On Saturday, May 16th of this year we "crossed our wake" by returning to Lambs Marina!   In actuality, we made the trip in roughly 13 months.  We took a 3-month trek in 2024, a 7- month trek in 2025 and 3-months this year. Over 6,000 total miles. We docked at marinas most often, but enjoyed anchoring, especially in Canada. Boy were we novices when we started out.  Every time we returned from home, we had to relearn the electronics.  Pretty soon, however, we had our start-up and shut-down routines down pat. Usually, I did the heavy lifting of the fenders (my kettle balls), threw the lines to the dock hands, as Don pulled Cady Girl into or away from the dock.
